This is a narrative about a day in the life of an indus inventor
In a quiet little river valley city called Mohenjo-Daro lived a man named Abdulla Muhammad Raul. He is a genius, but no one knows. “Stamps get your stamps here” Abdulla shouts. “Man, I hate my job” he says to Ted. “Why don’t you just quit?” Ted asks. “That’s a great idea; I’m going to do something with my life.” “What are you going to do?” “I’m going to be an inventor.” Abdulla heads home to think.
Later that day Abdulla thought and thought and thought until an idea sprouted in his head. “I’ve got it” he shouted. Abdulla got to work. The next day Abdulla had 3 brand new innovative ideas that would change life as he knew it. Using sticks and mud and metal, he created the straight edge ruler, the step-well, and the scale.
“People listen; I have created 3 things that will help shape this culture forever.” “What are they?” a man in the crowd asks. “Well let me show you” Abdulla said as he pulled out his inventions. “The straight edge ruler, allowing you to measure small distances and keep things straight and upright. The step-well, allowing you to access your roofs, or make a basement. Finally, the scale, the scale will help you weigh items to determine weight needed for trade and payment” “Why would we use those? Get out of here kid we don’t need your inventions!” the man in the crowd shouted.
Abdulla ran as fast and as far as he could. He ran all the way to Harappa. When he got there he had to settle in. “I would like to rent a room” “that will be 100 bronze pieces sir.” “100 bronze pieces?! That’s outrageous!” Abdulla exclaimed. “I’m sorry sir but we have no way of measuring money” “Well I have a solution” Abdulla says as he pulls out his scale. “This device will weigh coins to tell you their worth so you don’t lose money or overcharge people” “This is revolutionary; you need to get this out to the people!” “Thank you sir, but that didn’t work last time.” “Forget last time, last time is in the past. Think of the present, that is why I am letting you stay here tonight for free.” “I like Harappa.”
The very next day Abdulla heads out to the market and starts advertising. “People listen to me; I have to tell you about these inventions.” “Everyone listen to him, he has saved my business with one of those devices.” The hotel manager says. “Yes I have helped him with the scale, it weighs anything that fits in the cup, I also have the straight edge ruler it measures things and keeps them upright. Finally I have the step-well it will help you get access to your roofs and potentially help you get underground.”
“This is great, my house will finally be upright” a man in the crowd said. “I will finally be able to use my roof” said a woman. “That scale will help me trade accurately so I never get ripped off” said a merchant happily. Because of Abdulla, the Harappans thrived for an extra 300 years. Without these inventions the Harappans would not have been known for anything.
