This is my reflection to the Scrapbook Project
The Harappan civilization flourished from 3300 B.C.E. to 1500 B.C.E. The Harappan civilization rested along the Indus River on the border of India and Pakistan. The two capital cities were Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa. The Harappans were known for their trade and farming. They traded lapis lazuli for bead making, and they farmed peas, sesame seeds and cotton. The Harappans also domesticated wild animals for example water buffalo which is still domesticated today in Asian countries. The Harappan civilization was known for inventing the ruler, step-well, and the scale. The civilization disappeared randomly at around 1500 B.C.E. no one knows how or why, but there is some evidence leading to how it may have happened.
The pictures I chose for the scrapbook are very important to my culture. I chose Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro because they are the two capital cities for my civilization. I chose pottery because it displays the practical craftsmanship that the people in my culture had. I chose sculptures because it shows the artsy craftsmanship of the people in my culture had. Finally I chose my postcards because I thought they had a good overview of my culture in picture form. An interesting picture would be picture two on page six, that group of sculptures would have taken a master craftsman years to make them especially in that large of a group. Another interesting picture would be picture four on page four, the intricate design of what appears to be fish appeals to my eyes and hopefully appeals to someone else’s eyes that sees this scrapbook.
I have learned so much about my culture. Everything that I have learned is in the overview part of the reflection. There were no ideas that surprised me because all ideas produced are in an untranslatable language. I would not like to live in my culture. I would not like to live in my culture because the people had no system of bathing. They also didn’t have a real system of currency or wealth. Plus if I lived in my culture I would not have the experience of knowing about it like I do from reading about it. Finally I would not like to live in my culture because it disappeared randomly. No one knows how or why, and if I lived there, I would not really like to find out.
